The Autumn Reset

Refresh Your Home, Body, and Soul for the Coziest Season Yet

As the days get shorter and the crisp fall air rolls in, it’s the perfect time for a seasonal reset. Whether you're refreshing your home for cozy fall vibes, nourishing your body, or reconnecting with your inner self, fall invites us to slow down and hit that reset button.

Here’s your guide to an autumn reset that will leave your home, body, and soul ready to embrace the season!

1. Home Reset: Cozy Up Your Space for Fall

Fall is all about creating warmth and comfort in your home. Let’s bring in some cozy fall decor and make your space a true autumnal sanctuary.

Declutter for a Fresh Start

New Year’s and spring might steal the spotlight, but fall is also a great time for a reassessment of your space and mini declutter. Take a moment to tidy up, pack away those summer items, and make room for your cozy blankets and fall decor. If you’re unsure about certain items, try a “maybe box” where you can revisit them later. Use this time to really consider if everything in your home is serving you. If not, it might be time to let go and clear some space for fresh, new things that better align with your spirit.

Layer on the Textures

When the temperature starts to drop, t’s time to swap out your summer decor for rich textures like velvet, chunky knits, and faux fur. Toss a few textured pillows and blankets on the couch or bed to set the cozy level to 10. No need to go overboard with pumpkins (unless that’s your thing)—fall-inspired colors like burnt orange, mustard, burgundy, and deep greens do the trick just fine.

You’ll also want to switch out summer light duvets for heavier ones that will keep you warm during the autumn nights as the temperature starts to dip.

Pro Tip: For a more plush and full look, use a duvet that’s one size larger than your duvet cover. For example, if you have a queen-sized duvet cover, go for a king-sized duvet inside it. This will fill out the cover completely, giving your bed that luxurious, hotel-like feel with extra fluff and volume. The same goes for pillows—using pillow inserts that are one size larger than the pillow covers (like a 22-inch insert for a 20-inch pillow cover) will give your pillows a fuller, more high-end appearance.

Very Mindful Decor

Be mindful of what you bring into your space during this cozy season. Really think about how you want to feel this season, then bring in those elements.

If you’re a nature girlie, decorating with natural elements like large branches, dried flowers, pampas grass, or twigs in ceramic vases is an easy, affordable way to give your home that fall refresh. Not only does it bring earthy vibes, but it also helps you stay connected to the season.

The nose knows, so don’t forget to set the mood with vegan candles made from soy or coconut wax in warm fall scents like amber, cinnamon, or sandalwood. Some of my favorites are from the Leoben Company (clearly marked vegan- find them at Home Goods!), Nette, and Apotheke (*as of 2021 Apotheke were noted as vegan on the website, trying to confirm that this is still true as of this year*).

2. Body Reset: Nourish and Take Care of Yourself

Summer is often a great time to keep it light, get out, and get your body moving- but as the weather cools down, your body craves more warmth and hearty nourishment. An autumn body reset is all about self-care, cozy rituals, and nourishing meals. But it’s also a good time to check in on your physical health.

Upgrade Your Self-Care Routine

Both your skin and hair need some extra love in the cooler months, so swap out your summer products for richer creams, oils, and serums. Treat yourself to a warm, relaxing bath with essential oils like lavender or eucalyptus—perfect for those chilly fall nights.

Seasonal Eats for Nourishment

Fall brings a bounty of seasonal veggies like sweet potatoes, squash, root vegetables, and Brussels sprouts and grains like farro, barley, and wild rice-all perfect for comforting, nourishing meals. Don’t forget to add warming spices like cinnamon, turmeric, and nutmeg for that cozy fall flavor.

And with the busy holiday season approaching, take time to slow down and enjoy your meals—whether it’s a cozy dinner or a pumpkin-spiced treat while you watch your favorite nostalgic movie, try to appreciate and savor every bite.

Move with Intention

Keep your energy up with gentle, intentional movement. Try yoga, stretching, or taking a brisk fall walk to soak in the seasonal colors. Moving with intention can help you stay connected to your body during this seasonal transition.

Check In on Your Physical Health

I’ll be honest—I’ve been neglecting my own physical health for a while now, so I’m really talking to myself here. Fall is a great time to check in on your health. Make those appointments you’ve been putting off with doctors, dentists, or any other healthcare providers. It’s about making sure your body is running as optimally as it can. Our health is everything, so let’s give ourselves the care we need.

3. Soul Reset: Reflect and Realign This Fall

Fall is a natural time for reflection and re-alignment. It’s the perfect season to slow down, reconnect with your inner self, and realign with your goals.

Create a Cozy Reflection Corner

Carve out a small corner in your home dedicated to reflection, journaling, reading, or meditation. Add some soft pillows, a cozy blanket, a calming fall-scented candle, and some soothing tea. It’s your go-to space for quiet moments and reconnecting with your soul.

Reflect on Your Goals

As we head into the last part of the year, take a moment to reflect: Are you still connected to the goals you set earlier this year? Or has something shifted? Use this time to let go of goals that no longer serve you and set fresh intentions for the months ahead.

Spend Time in Nature

Don’t miss the opportunity to reconnect with nature during this beautiful season. A walk through fallen leaves or a weekend hike can do wonders for your spirit. Spending time outdoors helps you feel more grounded and connected to Mother Earth and her changing seasons.
